The Beijing government said it will impose retaliatory tariffs on American goods.
Countermeasures include a 15% tax on coal and liquefied natural gas imports from the United States.
Crude oil, agricultural machinery, trucks and heavy vehicles are subject to a 10% tax.
The announcement came shortly after Donald Trump’s 10% tariff on China went into effect.
