Baladweyne – Reports from Hiiraan region confirm that Abdirahman Xujaale, the commander of the 26th Battalion operating in the area, has been shot and killed by soldiers under his own command.
Sources have told RNN Somali TV that the commander was fatally shot with a DShK heavy machine gun, resulting in immediate death at the scene.
All the soldiers suspected of involvement in the incident are currently in custody, and security forces have launched an investigation to determine the exact motive behind the killing.
So far, no official statement has been released to explain what triggered the soldiers to carry out the attack, and the circumstances remain unclear.
