Reports from Kismayo indicate that mercenaries within the Jubaland Police Force, allegedly taking orders from Ahmed Madobe, launched an attack on Senator Ilyas Gaboose, a presidential candidate in Jubaland. The attack, which was an apparent assassination attempt, was unsuccessful, and the senator survived.
Senator Gaboose’s security team responded, killing four (4) of the soldiers sent by Ahmed Madobe. Although the senator escaped unharmed, his driver, Bukhaari Yare, was critically injured during the incident and later succumbed to his injuries.
Ahmed Madobe is reportedly facing significant political turmoil, with strong opposition challenging his bid to retain the presidency of Jubaland. Sources suggest this attack is linked to Madobe’s alleged attempts to manipulate the election process in Kismayo.
Tensions in Kismayo have escalated, with reports of increased armament and mobilization among rival factions. The situation remains volatile, and there are growing calls for a peaceful resolution to prevent further violence.
