For the third day in a row, drone attacks have hit the port city of Port Sudan, severely disrupting the country’s only functioning international airport. Sudanese media reported explosions and a fire near the passenger terminal, with scheduled flights canceled.

Sudan’s energy minister said the attacks on the oil facilities were a deliberate act by the Emergency Situations Force to disrupt life in the city.

Before the attacks, Port Sudan was relatively safe. It is home to the country’s main port and airport.

Two years of war have devastated Sudan, dividing it into areas controlled by the military and the RSF.

Also about 12 million people have been displaced and there is widespread poverty and hunger in the country. The use of long-range drones to target critical infrastructure could further exacerbate the effects of the war in Sudan.
