Reports from the Middle Shabelle region indicate that Al-Shabaab militants have launched a heavy attack on a Somali National Army base in the War-Gaadhi area, located in the east of the region.
The attack, which reportedly began early this morning, began with a car bomb, which then led to a gunfight that is still ongoing.
The Al-Shabaab group claimed to have captured the area, while the Deputy Minister of Information for Al-Adaala announced that the bodies of Al-Shabaab fighters were scattered throughout the area.
Government officials have yet to officially talked on the attack, and the number of casualties from the fighting has not yet been confirmed.
