A 33-year-old Turkish man killed seven people in Istanbul on Sunday, including his parents, wife and 10-year-old son, before committing suicide, authorities said Monday.
The man, who was found dead in his car shortly after the shooting, was also accused of injuring two other family members, one of whom was seriously injured, according to a statement from the governor’s office in Istanbul.
Officials said the death toll at four, on Sunday evening, announced on Monday that the bodies of his wife and son, as well as the body of his mother-in-law, were found near a lake on the coast of Istanbul in the European part.
According to the Small Arms Survey (SAS), a small arms research organization, there are more than 13.2 million firearms in Turkey, most of which are illegally possessed, while the population of the country is 85 million.
