Berdaale district security forces in a planned operation in the Kooney area resulted in the killing of Maalin Qaddiid, a senior leader of the Al-Shabaab group.
The slain leader was in charge of collecting what they call Sakaawadka, a tax they extort from the people living in the areas under the Berdaale district in the Bay region.
This operation came after security officials receiving intelligence information about the whereabouts of Maalim Qaddiid and other members accompanying him.
This enabled the forces to attack the area, killing the leader and recovering an AK 47 rifle and a Fekon motorcycle, while some of the other members escaped.
