Kenya is facing a tense political situation today, where Hundreds of people in Kenya are set to take to the streets of the country today to mark a year since anti-tax protests began in which at least 60 people died.

The protests, led by youth, ended with them forcibly entering parliament and the police using force last year.

The Somalis living in Kenya have expressed fear over the violent protests taking place across the country today, which are against the proposed changes to the Kenyan government’s new taxes.

Today’s protests, dubbed “A Moment of Remembrance,” are in honor of those who lost their lives — and in anger over recent police killings.

Last year on June 25th, Gen Z protesters entered theΒ  Parliament and set part of the building on fire after MPs passed the controversial tax-heavy Finance Bill. The violence and chaos that followed marked one of the most traumatic political episodes in Kenyan’s recent history.
