The political party led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, formerly known as the Union for Peace and Development Party (UPD), has officially been renamed following days of consultations aimed at restructuring and expanding the party to accommodate new political stakeholders.

The new name of the party is Justice and Unity Party, reflecting a broader and more inclusive vision centered on fairness, unity, and national cohesion. The decision to change the name comes amid growing political participation and the need for the party to represent a wider coalition.

As part of the reform process, the party will now consist of three main councils, designed to enhance its organizational efficiency and governance structure. However, despite the name change, it was agreed that the UPD logo will remain unchanged, preserving the party’s historical identity and public recognition.

President Hassan Sheikh and senior party leaders expressed confidence that the new name will better reflect the party’s commitment to reform, justice, and unity for all Somalis.
