At least five quarry workers have been confirmed dead, while two others were seriously injured in an armed attack by suspected Al-Shabaab gunmen on a site where workers were staying in Buur Abor village in East Mandera county, northeastern Kenya.
In the Tuesday morning incident, the assailants ambushed the workers shortly after they arrived at the site at around 7am surrounded their vehicle and opened fire.
While the remaining 25 employees managed to escape the scene .
The regional administration and security forces have launched investigations, promising to ensure safety in the area.
