The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali, has revealed that the ongoing peacekeeping mission in Somalia is facing financial challenges, urgently calling on the international community to provide $190 million to ensure the operation continues and preserve the gains made in the fight against terrorism.

Mr. Mahmoud Ali, who was delivering a speech at a high-level conference on the situation in Somalia, said that financial support is essential for the continuation of the AUSSOM (African Union Somalia Support Mission), especially at a time when Somalia is at a critical juncture in terms of security.

“If the necessary funds are not urgently provided, there could be a significant decline in security operations, which could jeopardize the efforts made in recent years,” said the African Union Chairperson.

This call from the Chairperson of the African Union highlights the urgent need for financial support to bring lasting stability to Somalia. The international community now faces a grave responsibility not to let peacebuilding efforts in Somalia fall behind.
