PRESIDENT HASSAN SHEIKH MEETS WITH THE EUROPEAN UNION DELEGATION TO SOMALIA

Mogadishu, April 23, 2025 – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a high-level meeting today with the European Union delegation to Somalia. The discussions focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Somalia and the European Union, particularly in areas of security, state-building, and economic development.

President Hassan Sheikh expressed his gratitude to the European Union for its vital role in rebuilding Somalia’s governmental institutions, supporting the federal system, and standing in solidarity with the Somali people—especially during times of hardship. He emphasized that such support has played a key role in advancing the government’s stabilization and reconstruction plans.

The President elaborated on the government’s ongoing efforts towards national reconciliation, the promotion of good governance, and the development of a democratic system that paves the way for direct elections. He also outlined the preparations underway for the upcoming national consultative dialogue and the steps being taken to foster political stability and unity in the country.

President Hassan Sheikh reaffirmed the Federal Government of Somalia’s strong commitment to enhancing international cooperation, underscoring that Somalia’s relationship with the global community—particularly the European Union—is a cornerstone in securing a brighter future for the Somali people.
