Local media reports that the attack took place in Lamu County in the Coast region, and that the group that carried out the attack was repelled.
Kenyan broadcaster NTV reported that Kenyan security forces were on high alert to counter attacks by the Al-Shabaab group.
Kenyan military officials have not yet released details about the casualties caused by the blast or the direct attack claimed by Al-Shabaab.
