A press release from the government of Somalia has discussed a joint airstrike operation by the Federal Government of Somalia and the US forces of AFRICOM, which was carried out in the mountains of Calmiskaad in Puntland.
The airstrike that took place on February 22, 2025, was said to have targeted Daesh fighters who were hiding in the Kalmiskeed Mountains in the eastern region of Puntland State.
“The bombing operation that was successfully carried out by the United States Army working with the Somali National Security Agency took place on the evening of February 21 and yesterday on February 22, 2025, and was supported by the operation of the heroes of the Puntland Dervish Army to eradicate the remnants of the ISIS group ” said in a statement issued by the government.
The statement from the government also said that the initial evaluation of the operation shows that three members of Daesh were killed in the bombing, and no civilians were harmed.
Finally, the statement said, “The Federal Government of Somalia in cooperation with the AFRICOM Command will continue to evaluate the results of the operation, which is still ongoing, and we will inform the public of any developments.”
