About 1,500 US troops have been ordered to the US-Mexico border to prevent migrants from crossing the border.
A few hundred soldiers are expected to go there soon and their job will be to prevent people coming in from the border who want to enter the United States.
“This is just the beginning,” said one senior defense official, speaking of this new situation.
Another military official said that the army has not yet been asked to accommodate the immigrants in the military facilities there.
Officials also said the military plans to provide air support to the border patrol, including airlifts, and plans to send intelligence investigators to the border.
