The Sudanese military said on Saturday that they entered the town of Wad Madani in the center of Sudan, and that they are on the verge of expelling the RSF forces.
The capture of Wad Madani by the Sudanese armed forces is a major step forward in the fight against the rebels, and the largest city they have recaptured in the nearly two years of the Sudanese civil war.
The army released a video showing the military inside the city, which is the capital of the region known for agriculture and trade in Al Jazeera. This region has been held by the RSF since December 2023.
The recapture of Wad Madani may change the direction of the Sudanese war. The war, which began with a conflict between the RSF militia and the military, began in April 2023.
Since then, it has been confirmed that more than 12 million people have been displaced, thousands are believed to have died in the conflict, while half of the population is facing starvation.
