A plane carrying 181 passengers crashed at an airport in South Korea, killing at least 120 people, according to fire officials in the country.

Yonhap news agency said that the plane took off from the runway and crashed into the wall of the Muan International Airport in the southwest of the country.

The Jeju Air plane carrying 175 passengers and 6 crew returned from Bangkok, Thailand, and crashed when it landed at 09:00 am local time in Thailand.

So far, two people have been found alive, and rescue operations are still ongoing, according to the Reuters news agency, a fire official.

There were 173 South Koreans and two Thais on board, according to Yonhap.
The confirmed dead include 37 women and 25 men.

The cause of the plane crash is not yet known, but local media reports that it may have been caused by birds falling into the plane’s system.
