The Somali government issued a statement last night announcing that it has entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with the Egyptian government.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somalia said that the two governments of Somalia and Egypt have agreed to bring the relationship between the two countries to a strategic level.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, who is in Cairo and held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Badr Abdel Aty, represented the government in this strategic agreement.

“The meeting was focused on strengthening bilateral relations and seeking new opportunities for cooperation, with the agreement to bring the relationship to a strategic level,” said the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somalia.

“The two sides also agreed to strengthen trade and economic cooperation through the Somalia-Egypt Forum, which will be held in Cairo in January 2025,” he added in the statement.

This move comes at a time when a delegation from the Somali government is in Ethiopia to complete a strategic agreement recently between Somalia and Ethiopia.
