More news is coming from a meeting scheduled to take place today in Turkey, which will complete the mediation efforts between Somalia and Ethiopia.
As we have quoted from reliable sources, this meeting resulted from a request by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to ask the President of Turkey to help end the nearly year-old crisis between Ethiopia and Somalia.
The meeting will begin in a format where the leaders of the two countries will meet separately with President Erdogan and will pave the way for a meeting that could lead to a direct meeting to reach an agreement.
President Hassan Sheikh is reported to be standing by the decision that his government has already announced and defended in many forums and events, which was that Ethiopia will not be asked for anything less than withdrawing from the MOU agreement , about the attempt to grab land and the violation of Somalia’s independence.
Diplomatic experts believe that these issues that hastened the meeting in Ankara are part of the decision made by the government of Somalia to withdraw the Ethiopian troops from the country after the departure of ATMIS at the end of this year, while the African Union mission is operating under a new name.
