Reports from Kismayo indicate that tensions have escalated sharply after today’s election in which Ilyas Badal Gaboose was elected as the new President of Jubaland. A large number of troops have entered the city from frontline positions, taking control of key areas to ensure the security of the newly elected president.

This development has reportedly angered Jubaland’s outgoing President Ahmed Madobe, raising fears of a potential armed clash between the two factions. Both sides are reportedly mobilizing forces, with the city on edge.

Earlier today, efforts to disrupt the election resulted in violence, as troops loyal to Ahmed Madobe launched an attack on the election venue. During the attack, the personal driver of President-elect Ilyas Badal Gaboose was killed, intensifying the already fragile situation.

Kismayo now stands on the brink of conflict, with calls from the international community and local leaders urging restraint and dialogue to avoid further bloodshed.

RNN Somali TV will continue to provide updates on the unfolding events in Kismayo.
