The government of Ukraine has for the first time fired long-range missiles authorized by the United States into Russian territory, a day after Washington gave them permission to use them.
US officials also confirmed the use of the Army’s Tactical Missile System. The Russian Defense Ministry said the attack targeted the Bryansk region on the border with Ukraine on Tuesday morning.
The ministry said that five rockets were fired and one of them caused damage, while the destruction of the rocket started a fire at a military base in the region.
But two American officials said that the first information shows that Russia intercepted two of the missiles that Ukraine fired at Russia.
