Many suspected gangs killed in Haiti.

More than 20 suspected gang members were killed on Tuesday in the conflict-torn capital of Haiti, after the civilians joined the police force to resist an attack by the Shafuta groups on a support area in the city of Port-au-Prince.

The neighborhood of Petion-Ville was closed on Tuesday, with residents blocking the streets and asking people not from the area to stay at home. People were armed with powder and machetes to protect the area from mobs.

A Reuters reporter said he saw at least 25 bodies in the neighborhoods of Delmas, Canape Vert and Petion-Ville, where local residents were burning the bodies.

Also Haitian police spokesman Lionel Lazarre told Reuters that at least 30 of the bandits were wounded yesterday.

Since the month of April, Haiti has been witnessing a movement similar to civil unrest as local residents resist the gangs that have taken control of most of Haiti’s major cities.

The United Nations reported that at least 149 cases of civil resistance were recorded between June and September of this year.
