The former President of Somaliland Administration Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud (Silanyo) passed away last night in the city of Hargeisa, as confirmed to the media by the Minister of Information of Somaliland Administration Ali Hassan Mohamed.
Ahmed Silanyo, who was 86 years old, passed away at his home in Hargeisa, Somaliland president Muse Bihi Abdi confirmed. Muse, also condoled the death of the former president.
Silanyo became the fourth president of Somaliland between 2010 and 2017. He also led the Kulmiye current ruling party of Somaliland .
He was the second president who was elected by people votes and was elected democratically.
Silanyo’s death comes as Somaliland’s presidential election results are being waited.
Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud was born in Togdheer region around 1938. He held various positions in the civilian and revolutionary governments of Somalia, serving as Minister of Commerce and Minister of Planning and other positions.
