Reports emerging from Hoosingow in Somalia’s Lower Jubba region indicate that heavy fighting has erupted between Kenyan troops serving under the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and the militant group Al-Shabaab.
The clashes reportedly occurred near a Kenyan military base targeted by Al-Shabaab fighters. During the confrontation, Kenyan aircraft carried out airstrikes to support ground operations.
Following the attack, Kenyan forces launched security operations in areas surrounding Hoosingow to track down the militants involved. So far, no official information has been released regarding casualties on either side.
Meanwhile, joint military operations continue across Lower Jubba, where Jubbaland’s Darawiish forces and Kenyan troops are working together to counter ongoing Al-Shabaab attacks.
