Seven Al-Shabaab militants were killed after launching a coordinated attack on the Jilacow Interrogation Center in Mogadishu, a facility used to investigate terror suspects. Somali security forces swiftly responded, neutralizing the attackers within a short period.

According to security sources, the militants used a military-style “Cabdi-Bile” vehicle painted in the colors and insignia of official security forces and wore uniforms resembling those of the military. This allowed them to bypass multiple checkpoints in the capital, highlighting significant vulnerabilities in the inspection of security-marked vehicles.

Authorities have stressed the urgent need for stricter enforcement of vehicle and personnel verification within the capital. The attack has prompted renewed calls for full implementation of security regulations, including:

Law No. 134 – Government Facility Security

Law No. 135 – Private Facility Security

Law No. 123 – Capital Arms Control
The attack comes just a day after Somali forces dealt a major blow to Al-Shabaab in the Lower Shabelle region, liberating key areas including Awdheegle, Raqayle, Shaangarre, and Malabo. In addition, airstrikes over the past 24 hours targeted militant positions in Jilib, Mubarak, Ugunji, and Kuunya-Barrow, killing several senior commanders. Among them was Mohamed Osman Mohamed (known as “Tuutax”), deputy head of Al-Shabaab’s intelligence unit and chief of explosives logistics.

The Somali government expressed condolences to the families of fallen security personnel and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
