Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has launched a plan to reopen 52 roads in Mogadishu that were closed for the past 15 years due to security concerns.
He said the decision reflects improved security in the capital and emphasized that lasting safety cannot be achieved by road closures but by defeating terrorism directly.
“The difficult circumstances of the past 15 years led to the closure of the roads in the capital, but the real problem cannot be solved by closing roads. It must be addressed by fighting and defeating terrorism, as these are not monsters that stop just because a road is blocked.”said PM Hamse.
The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen security through new laws and preventive measures against threats like heavy weapons.
He thanked security forces, the Banadir regional administration, and Mogadishu residents, stressing that security is a shared responsibility requiring everyone’s participation.
