Turkey has expanded its deep-sea energy exploration fleet with two newly acquired modern drilling vessels, bringing its total to six making it the fourth-largest country in terms of deep-sea drilling capacity.

The ships, each 228 meters long and capable of drilling up to 12,000 meters, arrived in the Taşucu district of Mersin. Built in South Korea last year, they are equipped with helipads and accommodation for 200 personnel.

These vessels will support Turkey’s ongoing operations in the Sakarya gas field in the Black Sea, which holds an estimated 710 billion cubic meters of gas—enough to meet 30% of the country’s annual demand once fully operational.

Additionally, the Oruç Reis seismic vessel has completed its first international mission in Somalia, collecting promising seismic data that may attract global energy investors.
