Members of the People’s Assembly of the Federal Parliament of Somalia who held their second meeting of the 7th session today voted for the African Convention on the Rights and Education of Children which was passed by the Council of Ministers.
This convention, prepared by the African Union, aims to protect, develop and take care of the rights of children on the African continent, with particular reference to education, health, prevention of violence, and social welfare.
130 Members of Parliament agreed, 10 Members of Parliament refused, and 5 Members of Parliament were silent, thus the African Convention on the Rights and Education of Children was approved and passed to the Upper House of Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The ratification of this Convention shows an important step taken by the Federal Government of Somalia in protecting the rights of Somali children, by promoting the law and policies related to the care and upbringing of children.
