New York – The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, delivered a keynote address during an open debate at the United Nations Security Council focused on modern technology and its implications for global security.
In his remarks, President Hassan Sheikh highlighted the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in reshaping global life, economies, and security frameworks. He emphasized that while AI presents tremendous opportunities for advancing peace, development, and innovation, it also poses significant risks that require urgent international attention.
The President stressed the importance of developing comprehensive international laws and regulatory frameworks to govern the use and development of AI. He further underlined the need to promote equitable access to modern technology, ensuring that all nations — regardless of economic status — benefit from technological advancements.
President Hassan Sheikh reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to working collaboratively with the global community in building a secure, inclusive, and technologically resilient future.
