The Federal Government of Somalia has successfully evacuated 184 citizens who were stranded in Libya under difficult and challenging conditions on Tuesday, as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of Somali nationals living abroad.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation spearheaded the evacuation operation, fulfilling its duty to safeguard and provide assistance to Somali citizens living abroad.
Of those evacuated, 152 arrived at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu and 32 landed at Hargeisa Airport, with the operation carried out with the support of the European Union (EU) and International Organization for Migration (IOM).
At Aden Abdulla International Airport, the returning citizens were welcomed by the Second Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mr. Isaak Mohamud Mursal, other government officials, EU and IOM representatives.
