The United State of America President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that will increase the annual fee for applicants to the H-1B visa program for skilled foreign workers by $100,000 (£74,000).

He said that they will restrict access unless payment is made.

The H-1Bs have reduced the number of U.S. workers, while supporters including billionaire Elon Musk — argue that it allows the U.S. to attract the world’s top talent.

Also Trump in another set up a new “golden card” to speed up visas for some immigrants in exchange for fees starting at £1m.

The order is expected to take effect on September 21. It can only be applied to new applications, but companies must pay the same amount per applicant for six years, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said.
