A specially planned operation, jointly carried out by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and international partners, took place in the Shaw area of the Hiiraan region. The operation resulted in the killing of senior leaders of Al Shabab and several of their fighters.
The senior leaders killed in the operation included:
Abdullahi Hassan Omar, who was the Al Shabab appointed head of Amniyat (intelligence and security) in Hirshabelle;
A commander known only as “Cusaam”, a member of the group’s financial wing;
Two additional senior commanders, identified as Qudaame Dheere and Cabdul Ladhiif.
The operation specifically targeted a location where these leaders were gathered. All the targeted individuals, along with approximately 10 other militants, were eliminated during the raid.
This operation is part of the Federal Government of Somalia’s continued targeted campaigns—conducted in collaboration with the Somali people and international allies—to eradicate the threat posed by the Al Shabab militants.
