Kenyans Gen-Z to take the streets to Mark the 35th anniversary SABA SABA today.

Hundreds of people are expected to take to the streets across Kenya this morning to mark the 35th anniversary of the July 7 pro-democracy protests known as SABA SABA, unlike the past this year it being held by the younger generation called Gen-Z.

In Kenya, Saba Saba Day is remembered as the day in when nation-wide protests took place. On 7 July 1990, Kenyans took to the streets to demand free elections. The politicians who had called for the protests, Kenneth Matiba and Charles Rubia, were arrested days before the protest day.

Heavy police presence is seen in various parts of the capital as part of anti-protest measures, also roads being closed , especially those leading into the capital Nairobi, were closed at 5am.

Kenyan Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen has called for peaceful protests ahead of the planned Saba Saba Day protests today.

Also Murkomen expressed concern over the recent violent protests where public property such as police stations and courts were burned, and called on the police to deal with the violent protesters.
