Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal, speaking at a weekly press conference, described the plane crash as a “very sad accident”.
“Rescue operations are still ongoing. We will have to wait a little longer to get the official details,” he said.
“We have lost many people. We send our deepest condolences to all those who have lost their lives.” he added in his statement.
Also police chief of Ahmedabad said there were no survivors from the plane crash in western India, according to the AFP and AP news agencies.
At least 204 bodies have been recovered from the site of the crash of Air India Flight 171.
Reports say that the plane was carrying 242 people, including 12 crew members.
