US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has condemned the decision by Britain, Norway, Australia, Canada and New Zealand to sanction two hardline Israeli ministers. He said the move would not help US efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza.

The countries accused the two ministers of “inciting repeated violence against the Palestinian community” in the occupied West Bank.

The ministers, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, are both banned from entering the UK and all their assets in the UK will be frozen, as part of the measures announced by the Foreign Secretary.

The sanctions come as the UK and other Western countries seek to put more pressure on Israel, which is waging a brutal war in the Gaza Strip. The US government is not expected to be part of the move.
