Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud spoke by phone with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The two officials discussed strengthening bilateral relations between the Federal Republic of Somalia and Qatar , which ways to enhance joint cooperation in various vital fields were discussed, in addition to discussing regional and international issues of concern Mutual, in order to establish the bonds of friendship and understanding between the two brotherly countries.
The talks came as the African Union asked the Emir of Qatar to hold a conference to seek funding for the African Union mission in Somalia.
Qatar reportedly refused to host the conference unless donors attended. The United States has refused to pay for the AU mission.
