President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud , appointed Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab) as the governor of the Banadir region and mayor of Mogadishu, while Mohamed Ahmed Amiir, the governor of the Banadir region, was also removed from office.
The statement from Villa Somalia stated that the president based this appointment on the knowledge and work experience of Governor Muungaab, who previously held this position and played a positive role in the reconstruction of Mogadishu and the overall development of services provided by the Banadir Regional Administration.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also urged the new Governor to prioritize the development of the capital, reconciliation, strengthening cooperation between security forces and the community of Banadir Region, beautification, and the expansion of basic services, all of which are priorities for the government.
